Lauren Schroeder Draft 4 October 30, 2015 Adolf Hitler vs. Dietrich Bonhoeffer Adolf Hitler and Dietrich Bonhoeffer have some similarities and some differences. They both are two particularly interesting members of Germany’s historical history. Since they are both German, they both have similarities based on home country, but differences in background history. Examining these two important historical people will enable the ability to find similarities and differences in WWII. According to The Jewish Virtual Library, Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in Braunau am Inn, Austria. He was a resentful, dishonest child. He was often grumpy, lazy, and had unpredictable dispositions. He was deeply hostile towards his strict, authoritarian father and strongly attached to his indulgent, hard-working mother, whose death from cancer in December 1908 was a shattering blow to the adolescent Hitler. Biography.com states that when Hitler was 3, His family moved from Austria to Germany. Because of his brother’s death in 1900, Hitler became detached and introv erted. His father did not approve of his interest in fine art rather than business because of Hitler’s interest in art and his additional interest in German nationalism, rejecting authority of Austria-Hungary. This early interest of nationalism would eventually lead to what Hitler became famous for about two decades later.
